Instructions

 

You are asked to reflect on the material presented in Unit 1 on healthy aging and the life course perspective. You can choose to:

 

  1. Reflect solely on the reading material for this unit;

 

  1. Reflect on the experience(s) in your personal or professional life that are relevant to the unit material (e.g., your interaction with an older adult that involves the promotion of health); or

 

  1. Reflect on both the reading material for this unit and experience(s) in your personal or professional life that are relevant to the unit material. There is no page or word count requirement.
Your journal should be clear and organized, using the following structure as a guide, with sufficient detail for each of the four points.

 

1.Describe your experience

 

    If referring to the unit readings on healthy aging and the life course perspective:

  1. What are the most important piece(s) of information that you learned from these readings?

 

  1. What insights did you gain from these readings? What did this learning make you think about?

  1. Did you have any prior perceptions or assumptions about healthy aging? If so, what? How did these readings influence these perceptions or assumptions?

 If referring to personal or professional experience(s)

 

  1. Why did you act the way that you did or say what you said? What reasons underlie your decisions (e.g., values, beliefs, concerns, past experiences)?

Confidentiality Note

 

In your journals, do not state the real names of the people involved, nor the real names of any places. Instead, use pseudonyms so the people and places are not identifiable by the person reading the reflection.
