Journal Entry

Journal Entry

Begin a journal that you will keep throughout the 5 weeks of class. Each week your instructor will provide a few writing prompts related to each week’s topics to help guide your journal. You must respond to at least two (2) of the prompts each week (at least 200 words each) and the required weekly summary (at least 100 words) for a total of 500 words. This is a focused free writing assignment, so format, grammar, and spelling will not be graded.

Week 1 journal writing prompts (Pick at least 2):

  • Describe the steps of your current personal writing process. For example, how do you approach a writing assignment for school or for work?
  • What would you describe as the strengths in your writing? What weaknesses do you think your writing exhibits? Are there ways to take advantage of your strengths and overcome your weaknesses in writing? If so, what are they?
  • Describe a writing assignment (for either school or work) where you spent time proofreading your draft. Did your writing improve after you looked at your draft a second time? What kinds of changes did you make before turning it back to your instructor (or your manager)?

Required Summary Prompt:

For this week’s assignment, you picked a type of pre writing to generate ideas. Now,  choose two more prewriting methods to try out. Write about all three of the activities you tried out and which one you liked best.

Refer to Ch. 2 & 7 of Wordsmith to review information related to prewriting and revising techniques.
