Dissertation: A study of how to use sprint retrospective meeting of agile development management in software project

A study of how to use sprint retrospective meeting of agile development management in software project
The client is a company in China in Suzhou, Jiangsu province called Suzhou radio and TV station(CSZTV). It is a subsidiary enterprise of the Suzhou city belonging to radio and television group. In local areas, it is the earliest implementation of digital translation of radio and television enterprise. The scale of CSZTV compared to other radio and television enterprises in the local radio and television industry has a guiding position.

With China’s increasing development to accelerate the triple play, CSZTV is also accelerating their own pace. The company’s current total subscribers is about 300000, the total amount of future users can be around one million. At the meantime, the user’s growth rate is slowing, the external policy environment and market environment is still full of uncertainty. BOSS is the abbreviation of Business & Operation Support System. It comes from the telecom industry’s billing system, Business support system(BSS)and Operation support system(OSS). It covers the billing and settlement, business, accounting, customer service and other functions. It is the system of various business functions unified planning and integration in order to fully share the information resources BOSS system is intended to improve customer service quality, further improve the work efficiency, and reduce the enterprise cost. So the client required to build an efficient team to face the software development. In the past, CSZTV’s small system or module development usually developed by one or two engineers, which led to no systematic project management and no project management experience. However, agile development can divide a project into several sub projects. This paper will aim at studying
how to use sprint retrospective meeting to build an effective team..
Product to be delivered to client

1. Review the existing literatures regarding retrospective and team effectiveness.
2. Questionnaires to CSZTV BOSS system team members on use of sprint retrospective meeting in order to build effective teams in software projects.
3. Interviews to software project team members in CSZTV. on the influence of sprint retrospective meeting for effectiveness of the teams.,
4. Results from questionnaires by SPSS
5. The recommendation and plans to improve team effectiveness in different types of teams
6. Mitigation measures on issues on sprint retrospective meeting on agile projects

Client requirements
1. Searching the current literatures on sprint retrospective meeting and their impact on team effectiveness
2. Identifying the advantages of sprint retrospective meeting in project team
3. Analyzing the sprint retrospective meeting and Team effectiveness in the BOSS system development.
4. Making use of the required technologies so as to improve on the current project in CZZTV
5. Applying project management into software development.
Constraints
1.Location of client: This project is carried out in China, cannot participate in the project meeting and occupy client too much time online
2.Access to special resource: some information is just shared with internal departments, every time need to log on sponsor’s authorization
3. Time limitation: the project is restricted by time, which requests to deliver results in a short time.
4. Theoretical disadvantages: The project management theories are gradually mature and the software agile development method is popular. As a consequent, there will be more comprehensive study of these two subjects in the future. Software project management is a very wide range of major issues, this paper is only a preliminary exploration of the field of practical projects, and consequently, the entire software project is not comprehensive and in-depth study.
.
Resources
1. The historical situation of the BOSS system project team
2. Guidelines on the BOSS system and its goals
3.The choice of the respondents for the interview and questionnaires for the BOSS system project
4. The qualification for entering the internal communication platform.
5. The introduction of CZSTV department

Project Objectives

1. To study literature reviews on sprint retrospective meeting and team effectiveness in agile project
2. To address the issues of sprint retrospective meeting and team effectiveness and offer mitigation
3. To make questionnaires to Suzhou radio and TV station members on sprint retrospective meeting and team effectiveness. And analyse the results by SPSS

4. To get the Client’s evaluation to know whether the research conforms to the company’s
objectives on the subject of study
5. To produce the complete project dissertation between 10000 – 15000 words covering Abstract, Literature Review, Methodology, Analysis of results and discussion, Recommendation and Conclusion.
Statement of Research

Research Statement:
With the software development technology and rapid development of economic globalization, in order to meet the needs of open market, the demand of software development productivity raise higher and higher. More and more companies adopt agile development method to build a strong team. Especially sprint retrospective meeting can helping team members understand project process and promoting mutual communication.
Research questions are: 1. How do the sprint retrospective meeting influence CZSTV? 2. What are the impacts of sprint retrospective meeting on the project management in CZSTV? 3. What are issues of sprint retrospective meeting and how to mitigate.
