Criminal Liabilities in Law

Karren decides to leave her husband, Nick, in order to go and live with her new boyfriend. Karren puts off telling Nick about her plans as she is worried about how he will receive the news. Nick, who has a long-standing history of chronic depression, is very emotionally dependent on Karren. When she finally breaks the news to him, his reaction is far worse than she had anticipated. He suffers a complete nervous breakdown and has to be hospitalised.
While in hospital, Nick decides that life is no longer worth living and consequently he refuses all food, water and medical treatment. Dr. Sugar decides to attach an intravenous drip to Nick while he is in a deep sleep. On waking up, Nick immediately removes the drip and verbally abuses Dr. Sugar. Taking offence at his attitude, Dr. Sugar allows Nick to discharge himself knowing that he (Nick) intends to starve himself to death. Nick dies at home a week later. Evidence later establishes that Nick remained legally competent throughout the whole period.
Advise the surviving parties on their liability, if any, for criminal offences. You do not have to consider any defences.
