This article provides an in-depth description of the application of Six Cell as a methodology for process improvement. In particular, the authors have developed a comprehensive article that provides a detailed explanation of every step involved in the implementation process, which started with project development charter before it moved to the process of implementation and ended with results. In addition, the authors have included a section in the article that provides a comprehensive comparison of Six Sigma model with a pre-implementation process.

Aim

In this article, the authors’ aim was to develop a case study-based paper that would provide the readers with an in-depth analysis of how the Six Sigma concept can be used to improve strategies in the field of cell site construction. They have used a telecom corporation as an example. In fact, they also aimed at demonstrating that the Six Sigma concept is a breakthrough methodology in modern corporate management.

Methods

The authors chose an action research as the research approach and methodology. The action research involves a Six Sigma project that makes use of DMAIC research methodology in a cell site construction. The purpose of the construction process was to improve the information process of a telecom corporation. The methodology was used with an aim of demonstrating how the concept of Six Sigma tools as well as techniques can improve the strategy within a single project for a real organization. Specifically, the company had constructed 900 cell sites in the previous year, but 150 of them did not achieve the required standards.

Findings

The case study described in the article indicates that the Six Sigma concept proved to be a successful process of reducing wastage of resources and time. For instance, the study has indicated that the company was able to achieve its aims and objectives within a short time. In particular, the study reports that the company had used some $0.5 million in 2010 to rework and maintain the 150 understand cell sites, which is an indication of a problem in its project improvement. However, with the implementation of the Six Sigma Concept, the company was able to save some $0.45 million. Using this information, the researchers have reported that the Six Sigma concept is an effective method of reducing waste as well as improving organizational performance in modern management (Brady and Allen 338).

Conclusion

According to the researchers, the study reported in this article was one of the various attempts to demonstrate the importance and effectiveness of the Six Sigma process of improving cell site construction. The results of the study provides further indication that the challenge of employing the Six Sigma protocol can be dealt with using a comprehensive process that pays attention to all the steps and stages involved (Chang, Chao and Lin 297). In addition, the researchers report that the Six Sigma concept works best in cell site construction, despite the differences between construction and manufacturing processes. Using the telecom company as an example, the researchers have shown that industries can achieve great benefits in their performance, especially in a competitive business environment.
